A Common Path:
Iceland's presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2019


Youth, sustainable tourism and the ocean environment are three priority areas of Iceland's presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2019.

The Ocean priority consists of three NordMar programs that will run between 2019 and 2021: NordMar Plastic, NordMar BioRefine and NordMar Ports.

NordMar BioRefine

Aims to strengthen the Nordic Blue Bioeconomy by:

- Establishing an expert Nordic Blue Bioeconomy network.

- Launching a blue bioeconomy portal for knowledge exchange and networking.

- Conducting a feasibility study on open-access blue bio-refineries.

- Maintaining effective communications to stakeholders and the public.

Blue Ideas Competition

NordMar Biorefine will launch an animated video on the blue bioeconomy to facilitate increased understanding of the concept and to engage the public.

A video competition, aimed at Nordic students, will be held in 2020. Participants are to submit their ideas of new solutions, processes and products within the Nordic blue bioeconomy.
